Skin Matters # 3 - Product Guide

Now that we have the basis of what we should be doing lets look at the products that can help us achieve that beautiful glowing skin. I use a mix of high end and affordable products, I don't believe that the most expensive product will necessarily work best for me, so I choose my products according to how they perform for me. In this post we will look at Cleansers

You need to choose a cleanser that is appropriate for your skin type, I had the privilege of filming at Edgars Sandton City and I got to speak to some of the ladies at the skin care counters, I was absolutely blown away by the knowledge they have on the products they sell.  If you are like me and are totally clueless about skincare products then you must make it a point to visit an Edgars store near you,  so that they can guide you through the products.

Dry Skin

Pick a moisturizing cleanser one that does not strip you skin of oil.  Look for things with "Hylauronic" in them as this is has moisturizing and plumping properties.  Always read the description of what your product is supposed to be doing, look for words like "moisturizing cleanser"  ""milk or cream"  as these will be dry skin

Combination Skin
This is my skin type and it drives me NUTS, I need to have a cleanser that will cleanse my oily T Zone but at the same time it must not strip the rest of my skin, I always look for cleansers that contain gel, I avoid things with soap as these tend to dry out the rest of my skin.  I am currently in love with the Himalya Combination Skin Cleanser.  My skin feels cleansed but it is not stripped at all.

Oily Skin
If you have oily skin the worst mistake you can make is using products that will literally strip all the natural oils of your skin, because your skin will then produce even more oil to compensate for the loss of oil.  This skin type has enlarged pores as well, which easily get clogged as unfortunately oily skin attracts dirt quite easily,  so if there is dust in the air, guaranteed this will get trapped in your pores.  This skin type is easily susceptible to acne so you need to treat your skin with great care.  With oily skin type you need to use a mild cleanser nothing too abrasive, make sure it is oil and soap free.  A gel cleanser is ideal, look out for words like "anti-bacterial" and "purifying".

Normal Skin
I absolutely envy you, but this does not mean that you should not take care of your skin, it is just slightly easier for you to cleanse your skin.  I would stick to soap free cleansers and gel based cleansers are always a winner.

There are so many products available in stores, but make sure that what ever products you choose, they are suitable for you skin type.  If you are going to go the DIY route make sure that you keep your "concoction" in the fridge so that it doesn't spoil and if it smells funny THROW it away as using products that have gone bad will cause you untold problems. If you are like me and LOVE products make sure you visit your nearest Edgars Store and ask the ladies at the counters for help.
