Flat Twists and ME!

I have watched close to 40 You Tube video's trying to learn how to do this flat twist, some of the video's were so complicated and they kept making it look so easy I just wanted to scream.  Then I came across +Nik Scott  videos and I was like WOW I want that on my head I watched a few times ran off to my bathroom to try the style and it was an absolute disaster, it looked nothing like what +Nik Scott had done so I "parked" the idea for a few days.
Then I tried again and funnily enough I tried the style without looking at the mirror and "hey presto" I had done it I couldn't believe it, I was jumping up and down like a two year old about to get smarties, but then I started to worry.....would I be able to do it again so I kept the style on for a few days, and watched the video's again in anticipation for my next restyling and what I learnt from +Nik Scott  video's is that your hair has to be thoroughly de-tangled or it won't work it will look like a "hot mess".  Then all too soon the day came I had to refresh and moisturize my hair first I co-washed my hair with +III Sisters of Nature  Coconut co-wash, then I applied the +III Sisters of Nature Leave-in conditioner, I sealed this goodness with  +Natural Moisture Olive Hair Oil.  To get my hair straight I used the threading method. When my hair was dry I took down the threading de-tangled with my fingers then used a wide tooth comb to make sure my hair was thoroughly de-tangled. So  I tried to replicate the style and would you believe it was even better I couldn't believe it and to think I had struggled the first few times I had tried but once I had learnt how to do it I wanted to flat twist everything.

Low Manipulation Styles
I love low manipulation hair styles especially if they are cute what is the difference between protective styling and low manipulation styling you ask? Well I always put it like this -  low manipulation styles are quick easy and affordable versus protective styling which takes a day out of my life is expensive and always results in me shouting at the stylist......

As with all things that have to do with natural hair there is contradicting information with what exactly low manipulation hair styles are, my philosophy with natural hair information has always been to stick to things that make sense, if it doesn't make sense to me then I am not doing it......
For me a low manipulation style is something that keeps my hands away from my hair for at least 3- 5 days.  As we all know our hair type is the most fragile of all the hair types and the less you manipulate your hair the better for length and moisture retention. So as it gets colder I start to look for and pull out from the "archives"  hairstyles that keep my hands away from my hair.

I have listed my favorite low manipulation hair styles below:

Number One - of course is the Flat Twist

Number Two - African Threading

Number Three - High Buns -  a note on this is one is make sure that your bun does not pull on your edges or this will not work-  at night just tie it up with a scarf in the morning attach your Marley hair and you good to go

Number Four - Wigs these have saved my hair a time or two when life just gets in between me and my hair  I will normally put one of these on and it totally changes my look

Number Five - Up-do these can be done with or without Marley hair they keep my hair in a cute style for a few days

What are your go to low manipulation hair styles?  Are any of you looking forward to braiding your hair for the winter months let me know?
