This is by far the most common question I get after; how do
I regrow my hairline? I have written quite a few posts on this before but I
thought it best to revisit the subject again.
Your hairs dry simply because you do not moisturise it
enough. Ethinic (natural) and curly hair is the driest hair type because of the
way it grows. It coils or curls, which means the body’s natural oils cannot
reach the ends therefore making it dry. When I consult with clients I find that their routine does not contain enough products that contain water.
Oils are not moisturisers imagine being thirsty and
reaching for Sunfoil Sunflower oil; when you are thirsty you drink a glass of water. Why are you not doing the same for your hair. Dry hair snaps like a dry twig! Heavy oils such as castor oil, olive oil, avocado oil,
baobab oil and argan oil seal the hair so moisture cannot penetrate the
hair easily. Yes, they are conditioning
but they will not condition your hair if it is dry. Think about how your skin
feels if you apply Vaseline, or oil on it when it is dry, it feels like the oil
is sitting on top of your skin you are shiny but it does not feel soft. Apply
the same products on damp skin and the oil does not sit on top it absorbs
into the skin and your skin feels considerably softer.
Choosing Products
The most important thing to remember when choosing your
products is that they should be as clean as possible and by that, I mean avoid
products with a high mineral oil and petrolatum content. Make sure that your products contain some form
of water be it Aloe Vera juice or juices from other plants. Choose products that also have conditioning
agents as this will help the moisture absorb quickly, leave-in conditioners,
moisture butter cremes, moisturisers and hair lotions will help in combating
dryness and add softness to your hair.
Let me know in the comments below what you use to moisturise
your hair? Also, if you have found this article helpful don’t forget to share
it with your friends. Sharing is caring.
