Is Jamaican Black Castor Oil more effective than Regular Castor Oil?
The difference between the two products is the method that the oil is extracted from the Castor Bean!
Jamaican Black Castor Oil
When extracting the oil the Castor bean seeds are roasted, the seeds are then crushed and added to the oil, this is what gives the oil its brown colour and that distinctive burnt smell.
Cold Pressed Castor Oil
Fresh castor beans are squeezed at high pressure to extract the oil. The oil derived from this method is actually not clear it is a yellowish colour. The clearer Castor oil has been filtered and it contains less iodine.
Which is better?
Well, its all about what you prefer and what you believe the oil can do for you. It can be argued that the cold pressed oil is more beneficial for you as it is the purest form of the oil. However it does not necessarily mean it is the best for you as it does have higher iodine levels. Some may argue that JBCO is better for you because it has the added roasted seeds in it, which might have some added benefit. I prefer the regular castor oil as it doesn't smell as bad as the JBCO.
Some things to be aware of!
Some commercially produced Castor Oil brands contain other oils and additives such as mineral oils and parabens, and only a very little Castor Oil. Always check the ingredients of your products including your oils so you are not buying a version of the oil!
