After weeks of searching for Aunt Jackie's products at Clicks; I finally found the products at Africa Cash and Carry in Crown Mines. For those you that have been to Africa Cash and Carry you will know how chaotic and traumatizing it can be so I wont go into my shopping experience just know that I am fine and slowly recovering......
So I started off by using Aunt Jackie's Soft & Sassy Super Duper Softening Conditioner (R59) as a co-washer I still haven't warmed up to it I have used it more than 10 times and I am still not feeling it at all. It cleans my hair with out stripping it but I don't think my hair is "Super Duper" soft at all my curls are defined after I wash but my hair isn't amazingly soft. I think Tresemme Naturals does a better job. The price of Tresemme has shot up by the way so I was really hoping that this would do the trick because R90 for a co-washer is a bit steep I think. This one for me does not live up to is really long name and I will not be buying this one again.
the Knot On My Watch Instant Detangling Therapy(R41) does just that it literally melts knots away.....I found this product to be quite amazing especially using it on my little girls hair she has waist length 4C hair that is always in twist, it's a mission to detangle her hair but using this product cut the detangling time literally by half, another thing I like is that it left her hair really soft. I will definitely keep a bottle of this handy for the MiniFro wash days.
Knot Having It Leave-in Conditioner (R59) gets a 7/10 from me, it doesn't leave residual on your hair which is a big thing for me, I hate having white little specs on my hair after styling. I used it whilst doing the LCO method, it left my hair really soft BUT boy was there some major shrinkage. I know I have natural hair and shrinkage is part of it but this product really does nothing for stretching my hair out, it some how manages to make my hair shrink even more than it would normally, it's a good leave-in and if distribution improves I would definitely buy it again.
My favorite of all the Aunt Jackie's products was the Aunt Jackie's Curl La La Defining Cream (R38) finally something that doesn't cost me a kidney to style my hair. I am on my second bottle of this stuff already, a side note here is that a a little goes a very long way the first time I used it I used a "natural girls pea size" amount which as you know us naturals is a lot. I am using it for twist-outs, bantu-knot outs, flat twist-outs and any of my styles that require a bit of hold. What I am enjoying about this product is that it doesn't dry crunchy at all so my curls are soft and bouncy and this stuff smells amazing; in-fact all Aunt Jackie's products smell amazing. I have tried it for a wash and go but it also causes some MAJOR shrinkage. I will definitely be including this one in my favorites list.
What do I think
I think there are some really good products in this line like the Curl La La and the Knot on my Watch Instant Detangling Therapy those actually worked for me. The pricing of the products is really good especially since they are imports it rare to find an imported product that is less than R250 these days. The distribution of this product is absolutely shocking though, I have enquired at 4 different Clicks stores and nobody knew what I was talking about, furthermore the local Aunt Jackie's Facebook Page and Website seem to be un-manned as query after query about where to find the products went unanswered. This is probably the only reason why I wouldn't buy the products I enjoy on a regular basis as going to Africa Cash and Carry requires me to have the patience of saints which I really was not born with.
Have any of you tried these products? What were your thoughts? Were you able to get them from your local Clicks stores if so what area are you in?
Remember to love your hair always
