However desperation can make you do a lot of strange things (inversion method anyone), so out came the oils. I bought ready mixed oils as I couldn't fathom the thought of going through this and mixing my own oils as well.
My Process
After having read what seemed like every blog post on the internet on how to get the best results from a Hot Oil treatment I decided on the following method:
1. SHAMPOO - I used a moisturizing shampoo, I wanted to ensure my hair was free of any dirt and products
2. CONDITION - I chose a de-tangling rinse out conditioner which has moisturizing properties .
3. OIL - I used ready mixed oil.
How I used the Oil
Am I the only one that thinks that microwaves kill nutrients, well because of this "strange belief" I heat my oils with hot water, I boil some water pour it in a bowl, then I stick my oil bottle into the bowl and when my oil is sufficiently warm I take it out. Please be careful the oil must not be boiling or you will get seriously burnt it must be warm to touch.
What I did differently
When I have tried hot oil treatments before I have always kept them on for 15 - 20 minutes then rinsed off, this has always left my hair feeling oily and greasy, what I did this time is I kept it on overnight yes darlings for over 8 hours, I got that tip from +Naptural85.
I rinsed the oil off the next morning with warm water to get as much oil out as possible, then I added my conditioner which I rinsed out with cold water. NOW family what I got after that was SUPER SOFT, moisturized hair even I couldn't believe it, the treatment restored the moisture balance to my hair. My scalp had absorbed the goodness of all the oils during the night, furthermore the Greenhouse effect helped the oils penetrate my hair strands, my hair was definitely in a happy place.
So is the Treatment In or Out
Well if I have ever had to back track on a treatment "bashing" it is definitely this one, I absolutely LOVE how my hair feels after this treatment, I have tried a few different brands of ready made oils, each has different results depending on the oil mix but the underlying result is always SUPER SOFT hair. This treatment is definitely a keeper for me, I will increase the frequency of the treatments as we get into the colder months, to ensure my hair is prepared for winter.
What are the things you regard as unnecessary in caring for your hair and have never tried?
