Palmers Coconut Oil Formula
product review
Tuesday 23 February 2016
As unrepentant product Junkie, I try almost every product available on the market, when I saw the Palmer's Coconut Oil Hair products been advertised on the Clicks flyer, I knew I had to have them. It wasn't that simply though, as it turns out not all Clicks stocks these products so I had to search for them, I finally found them at Clicks Cresta Mall.
I am sure you have guessed what the main ingredient of these products is, yes its good old Coconut Oil which I am reliably informed can actually solve all "world problems". I always like to buy the whole range of products so I can see whether they work together well and then towards the end of my review I mix them up with some of my regular products.
Lets talk Shampoo
As you all know I am not a fan of shampoo, every-time I have to review a new range and it has a shampoo, I literally cringe. According to Palmer's, this shampoo is said to be a "conditioning, moisture replenishing and will add shine" none of their products contain any sulfates or parabens. So I put the shampoo to the test and I found that though it didn't leave my hair feeling stripped my hair was not soft neither did it feel moisturized. My hair was clean and smelt nice but it didn't give me what it said it would give me. I also tried the shampoo on fine limp hair as it says on the bottle and it left the hair feel coarse. For me the shampoo was definite fail.
Repairing Conditioner
This conditioner is said to repair and renew dry damaged hair, it contains coconut oil and keratin amongst other ingredients. I used it after shampooing, as a co-wash and as a protein treatment. As a rinse out conditioner after shampooing I found that it didnt have the amount of slip I like in my conditioner, as a co-wash it also lacked slip but did a good job of leaving my hair clean and soft. I LOVED IT as a protein treatment so much so that is it has replaced my regular protein treatment. My hair is much stronger after leaving it on my hair for 35- 40 minutes with a heat cap, my hair is incredibly soft after the treatment. This is a definite must have especially as your monthly protein treatment.
Replenishing Milk
This "hair milk" nourishes the hair whilst taming the frizz. I used this as a leave-in conditioner, styler, hair refresher and moisturizer. I enjoyed using this product after I washed my hair as it cut out the whole need for LOC method which I find extremely time consuming, it left my hair feeling soft. As a styler this product did nothing for me as the twist-out quickly disappeared into a big FRIZZY afro, clearly the frizz control technolgy in this product did not have me in mind when it was made. I like the way the product left my hair feeling and it is non-greasy which is an absolute bonus for me. I am in absolute HATE with greasy formulations lately and I like to touch my hair and not look like I have been frying vetkoeks all day. Will I purchase it again definitely it moisturizes and the light oils seal the moisture in cutting out a lot of cumbersome steps in my hair routine that I can probably do without at the moment.
My thoughts
Personally I would not use all these protein packed products all together as my hair would have a serious protein overload. I feel that incorporating some of the products into your natural hair regime would be good as you would add protein in small doses, however if you are protein sensitive these products are not for you. I believe that these products would work absolute magic on chemically treated hair, as the protein in relaxed hair has been broken down and these products would give your hair that much needed dose of protein.
What new products have you tried? Did they work on your hair? What do you do with products that you buy that don't work?
