Review: Overnight Repair Treatments

 

Overnight Repair Treatments promise to give you lustrous, moisturized soft manageable hair while you sleep, we put 3 Overnight Repair Treatments to the test and this what we found. 

Design Essentials Overnight Repair Treatment (R280) 

From their signature naturals range Almond and Avocado, Design Essentials has brought us their Recovery Treatment promising to give us "Healthy hair? Wake up with it. Replenishes moisture and nutrients to strands– all while you sleep. This lightweight treatment absorbs quickly, doesn’t leave heavy buildup, and helps restore hair health from inside out. "  

We completely loved this product, it is lightweight and absorbs very well on damp hair. The formulation is concentrated so you only need a small amount (approx R5 size). We used it for 4 days as recommended by the manufacturer but you can use the product for less than the time recommended as it is concentrated and it works quickly. This product is ideal for dry, brittle hair that is extremely porous and constantly needs moisture.

Keracare Overnight Moisturizing Treatment (Not Availiable for Retail)

Keracare's Overnight treatment comes from their Classic range and it promises the following; "Softens and smooths dry, rough, hard or brittle hair overnight. A moisturizing nightcap for dry hair with Coconut Oil and Sunflower Seed Oil"

We enjoyed the way the product felt on the hair after a few days. We do not recommend that you use this product as recommended by the manufacturer as it is very heavy and greasy so rather use 2 - 3 times a week.  This product would be ideal for extremely coarse hair that is porous and for those that enjoy using oils in their hair, as it does leave a heavy oil residual on the hair.  The product has to be used on damp hair or it will not absorb.  A small amount goes a long with this product as a very concentrated formulation.

Mizani Strength Fusion Intense Night-Time Treatment (R285) 

Mizani the professionals in hair-care promised a "hair treatment works while you sleep to fortify and nourish dry, stressed hair, leaving it smooth and strong by morning. It contains patented anti-breakage technology to help protect and prevent against split ends and breakage."

We found this product satisfactory. The product works extremely well on chemically treated hair as it helps strengthen compromised hair, though the treatment was formulated for all hair types, and is concentrated. We found that it can be a bit heavy on fine hair. On thick porous hair it does not offer any softening properties and tends to sit on top of the hair.  We highly recommend this product for relaxed hair as it works very well on that hair type rather natural hair.

Do we think you need an Overnight Treatment? Yes! If you hair is extremely dry and porous. An Overnight treatment will work with your other products to keep your hair moisturized.  It will also greatly assist those that do not deep condition their hair regularly as it aids in manageability.
